Big Game Tonight

Hard to remember a time Dallas was under more pressure. Having beaten the Eagles twice already this year, we are suppose to win. But the Eagles have a good defense and can score quickly. Also, last time Dallas won a playoff game, I was a freshman in college and a Calvinist. Either Dallas or the Eagles are going into the off season with a bad taste in their mouth. The way the boys have been playing I think we will win. Go Cowboys!

Dallas won so that ends that. Don't know if they have enough weapons to win the Super Bowl though I would not be shocked if they did.

Having been a linebacker I always favor teams with good defenses. That being said, you had no worry with Philadelphia as there was no way they were going to control the Dallas defensive line. The same went for the Jets versus the Bengals, the Jets had the stronger defense and you saw what happened. I told someone just yesterday that the teams with the best defenses will go the furthest in these playoffs. That means Dallas has a very legitimate chance of going all the way to the Superbowl. Just watch what they do to Favre next week, he will be harassed mercilessly and Dallas will win again. I expect they will end up playing the Saints in the final for the NFC. On the other side watch out for the Jets, they have a great defense. I think between the Colts and Chargers whoever's defense plays best for the next couple of games will get to the Superbowl. So my predictions at this point are that in the NFC it will be Dallas or New Orleans, whoever has the best defense. In the AFC it will be either the Chargers, Colts or Jets, again, whoever's defense plays best for the next couple of games. Tough defense always beats a good offense when it comes to crunch time!

In a near spiritual event last night, God's team beat the Philistines. Their players got outplayed and their fans got out prayed.

Robert, your right that defense is key and Dallas has a good one. The combo of Ware, Ratliff and Spencer make for a tough matchup on the line every play.

Roy, Super Bowl??? I can't see past the Vikings just yet. Farve/Peterson is quite a combo.

The Ravens' play today further proves my point: they manhandled the Patriots with their defense (was it three picks and a fumble on Brady?). The Cardinals and Packers provided an entertaining offensive display with virtually no defense and it was ironic that it was a defensive score that ended it. I say again whichever defenses play best next week and the following week will decide who goes to the Super Bowl and who stays home.

I'm a Steeler fan, but since they are not in the playoff's this year, I went for the next best thing........the Ravens.

They are one of our clones as well as rivals, and so it's real easy to cheer for them in our place.

When Dallas played us last season, I knew that they had a pretty good defense. Your defense still seems the same this year, and so, you don't have to worry against the Vikings, they struggled against both Pittsburgh and Baltimore this season, and so they should struggle against Dallas in the playoffs as well.

It should be a close game, I don't expect either or to get a blow out.

Dallas will beat up on Favre and the Vikings next week and I expect the Saints defense to do better than the Cardinals defense next week, so it will be the Cowboys and Saints playing to see who gets to the Super Bowl. I think Dallas' defense is the best right now, they have a great line, good linebackers and their corners close down the other teams receivers and can play them one on one (that allows them to rush a lot of people at the quarterback). I just think Dallas' defense is peaking and looking really, really goood right now.

I agree, the teams next week with the better defenses should win.

It's gonna be tuff for the Vikings, the Cowboys, the Chargers, Jets, and the Ravens........all have good defenses.

Calvinism’s problems with Total Depravity

This post will be an attempt to add some detail to earlier comments about problems reconciling Calvinism and total depravity, using John Hendryx post as an example ( here ). To my knowledge, it’s a new argument against Calvinism. Most Arminians are quick to agree with Calvinists on total depravity to avoid being called semi-Pelagian. However, this in my opinion is a mistake, not because Arminians disagree with total depravity, but because Calvinists have some definitional and consistency problems with affirming total depravity. Here's the basic argument: Premise 1: Per Calvinists, total depravity is a problem with man’s desires, it is a moral and spiritual problem. Scripture and the Common Man

Paul seems to missunderstand my view on scripture. He states: Crucial to Dan’s argument is the claim that “common man” are all, each and every, libertarians. If Dan claims that some “common men” are not indeterminist, but determinist, then he defeats one of his premises, or makes the Bible speak in contradictions. To spell this point out, recall that Dan says, “The Bible is written by and to the common man, it means what they mean, since they mean certain words libertarianly, then the Bible so means those words.” Yet if we allow some (even one?) of the “common men” to whom the Bible was written to be determinists, then it must mean what they mean by the words that are the topic of our discussion.
